Constrictive pericarditis is an uncommon post-inflammatory disorder characterized by a variably thickened, fibrotic, and frequently calcified, pericardium. Etiology of the constriction can occur for many reasons. Although foreign bodies are not the common cause of constrictive pericarditis, the long-term presence of foreign bodies, like bullets, is presumed to cause chronic constrictive pericar...

PA THOLOGIC deposits of calcium may occur in valve leaflets and valve rings, in the pericardial scar of chronic constrictive pericarditis, and in the myocardium. In each of these regions, the areas of calcification may be demonstrated by appropriately taken roentgenograms. Their detection often is of considerable diagnostic importance. The most common cause of calcification in the myocardium is...
متن کاملCLINICAL PROGRESS Diagnosis of Diffuse Myocardial Fibrosis
SIXTY-EIGHT patients with constrictive pericarditis were studied by this laboratory in a 30-year period. During this time 14 patients were encountered whose findings suggested constrictive pericarditis but who showed an abnormal myocardium at operation or autopsy. Two of these patients had both constrictive pericarditis and myocardial fibrosis, each of the other 12 had a no: mal pericardium. Th...
